abstract
The purpose of this study was to confirm preliminary data that an independent, localized GnRH system exists within the mouse heart and to examine the effects of deslorelin, a GnRH agonist, on mouse cardiac tissue. The study hypothesized that the heart contained an independent, localized GnRH system and that GnRH agonists have significant effects on cardiomyocytes, which may have negative effects on cardiac function. The results confirm that GnRH and its receptor genes are expressed in the heart. The presence of EP24.15 and the changes seen after GnRH agonist treatment indicate that GnRH might be active in the heart. More evidence is necessary before it can be concluded that GnRH acts directly on the heart note
