abstract
Research involves the practicality of implementing the communicative approach to language teaching. Three elements are specifically analyzed in regards to the communicative approach’s value: the students’ learning style, the students’ cultural background, and the impact of the students’ motivation and personality in the success of the acquisition of the target language. Specifically, the research indicates that communicative language classrooms; 1), emphasize the use of kinesthetic activities which are the primary learning style preference among students; 2), incorporate the target language culture (in this case, American) into the classroom which has been shown to improve student motivation and interest; and 3), use elicitation procedures to boost the students’ initiative to interact in the L2 as well as eliminate the possibility for less extraverted students to be overshadowed by dominant students. Therefore, in essence, the following text will attempt to illustrate the degree to which the communicative approach accommodates the issues within the three previously mentioned elements of analysis. note
