abstract
As an United States citizen and future Army officer, I will be exposed to private contractors nearly every single day of my career. Military contractors are sharing the combat zone with uniformed military personnel every day, yet the American public, almost never hear about what they are doing there. This lack of exposure, knowledge, and understanding about part of our country’s military total force is unhealthy for a democratic nation. It doesn't allow the citizens, the final and most important check of power in our nation, to make the necessary decisions on how our country will operate at home and abroad. My primary goal with this project is to provide a source of unbiased knowledge to the public in an attempt to further their understanding of this complex issue without having to read a large collection of books, articles, studies, and congressional hearings. To do this I have researched a broad spectrum of literature and cross checked all the information to try and erase all bias from what is generally a very partisan topic.
