A person with a hearing and/or speech limitation often needs an assistive device to communicate. Our device presents a method in which such a person can easily communicate with another person. Our design is meant to improve upon a similar system (The Lightwriter marketed by Toby Churchill) that the Wyoming INstitute for Disabilities (WIND) currently has. Our device is a battery powered standalone unit that uses two standard PS/2 PC keyboards to receive text from its users. This text is then displayed on two LCDs (one for each person to view). Finally, the text entered by the primary user (the person with the hearing or speaking limitation) is spoken by a text to speech converter. note
